Carinya Park

Our Stud

We keep a small number of brood Jennies, and a stunning young Jack, Clovercrest Magnito [Imp. NZ].

We firmly believe that our brood Jennies, (and their foals), should receive the same degree of attention, care, and handling as should any other equines who are kept for any other purpose. We do not consider Sweet Isis and her bub.Sweet Isis and her bub - Frostyour Jennies as simply vessels for producing foals, but really, as valued and loved members of our family. To this end, we will only ever keep a small band of Jennies to make possible this consistent high level of care, handling, and attention.

Each Jenny puts a good twelve months work into producing her precious bundle of joy, and we regard these mums with the appreciation and respect that is their due,  treating them accordingly, each as an individual with her own set of needs, idiosyncrasies, and likes/dislikes.

You can visit our girls here, learn a little bit about them as individuals, and view pictures of their lives with us. We feel truly blessed that we are fortunate enough to have the company of these sweet ladies on a daily basis.

We do have foals/weanlings for sale at times, and they are  listed, when available, on the For Sale page.

Beautiful Peony with her bub.Little Ted - one day old!

We do not operate using a 'flat rate' price for our donkeys based upon their pedigree. Any donkey we sell is assessed as an individual. We believe that along with bloodlines, factors such as temperament, correctness of conformation, and level of handling, education, and training should play a significant role in assessing the value of a donkey. All non-purebred AMMD jack foals are gelded prior to leaving for their new homes.

Our donkeys are raised in a family environment. They are imprinted at birth, well handled, well mannered, friendly, and sociable.Beth and TeddyNew donkey mum Beth visits to spend some time with her boy Teddy prior to his weaning.

We aim to ensure that new owners of our donkeys feel confident that they have the knowledge and support to provide their new family member with continued quality care. We are happy to spend time with new owners who are entering the 'world of donkeys' for the first time in order to ensure appropriate care of our donkeys into the future. After a donkey has left for his/her new home, we are always available to new owners should they have a query, a concern, or simply have some news of their little one to share with us!

Last, by by no means least we need to make special mention of a special Donkey. Our girl Dinki was a rescue Donkey we took in for care through my work with Quest Equine Welfare. (You can view Dinki's own web page on the Quest site here). Dinki was our very first 'Donkey experience'. Dinki takes Elise to school.Dinki takes Elise to school.Having been involved only with horses for my entire life, Dinki opened up a whole new world for me. What an amazingly loving, intelligent, and personable creature she was... I was intrigued. Through the research I subsequently did, I discovered the Miniature Mediterranean Donkey... I was hooked! Was such a precious little thing even possible?!

Dinki is of unknown breeding, aged, covered in lumps and bumps, and maybe not so 'pleasing to the eye' as some, but she was beautiful to us and very much treasured. She and my daughter were fast friends, and our lives are all the better for having had her in them.

Dinki spent a couple of years with us before we found her a wonderful home with a new family of young children. We hear news of her often, and by all accounts, Dinki is enjoying her new role as family member and friend to her new charges. She is very much loved, and will live out her days in her new home.

So, we have darling Dinki to thank for inadvertently bringing our little packages of fun and love into our lives, these little human companions who truly are a joy.

We have endeavoured to provide some background information regarding the wonderful and unique American Miniature Mediterranean Donkey breed on the The Breed page.
