5.01.10 - 12 mths oldWell the boy's officially a Yearling. He continues to be a complete gentleman, and is very happily living out with the rest of the kids. He and Frosty are great pals, and spend a lot of time playing 'Donkeys games'. It's been great for each of them to have a young playmate. Nito is an incredibly gentle Jack, and very 'soft' and obliging. He enjoys accompanying me on walks to collect my daughter from school, and sometimes into town. He also loves to come into the house sometimes. He is still only half way through losing his wnter coat, which must be hard for him, as we have had some very hot (over 40+) days here of late, but they seem surprisingly comfortable in these conditions. We are now getting glimpses of the 'summer Nito' and he is changing in appearance quite markedly as he loses the thick coat. Unfortunately our place is just dust at this time of year, but the boys seem to be happy entertaining themselves with branches I give them that fall from our big trees. You'd be surprised how many games you can invent with a leafy branch! They also love playing with a lead rope I've left in their paddock, and take turns in 'towing' each other around, both holding it in their teeth. They are definitely 'glass half full' animals. While my horses sulk about the heat and the bare paddocks, the Donkeys are just making the best of things :)
