Our Stud Here at Carinya Park we keep a small number of Brood Jennies, and a stunning young Jack, Clovercrest Magnito [Imp. NZ] who will, upon reaching breeding age, take up duties as our Stud Jack.
We firmly believe that our Brood Jennies, (and their foals), should receive the same degree of attention, care, and handling as should any other equines who are kept for any other purpose. To this end, we will only ever keep a small band of Jennies, to make possible this consistent high level of care, handling, and attention. We have a firm policy of not inter-breeding Donkeys who share ancestors in their pedigree, and given the number of international imports in recent times, there is no reason or excuse for this practice.
Our breeding stock are carefully selected for temperament, personality, conformation, bloodlines and 'train-ability'. By adhering to these principles, along with those laid down in the Miniature Mediterranean Breed Standard, we aim to achieve our goal of breeding healthy, sound, affectionate, social, well conformed and attractive Donkeys who are quality examples of their unique breed and who are very 'true to type'.
From the 'CPS Jennies/Mares' main page, you can visit each of our Jennies/Mares own page's, learn a little bit about them as individuals, and view pictures of their lives with us. Our breeding Mare and Jennies are valued and loved members of our family. We are truly blessed that we are fortunate enough to have the company of these sweet ladies on a daily basis. Each Jenny puts a good twelve months work into producing each of their precious bundles of joy. We regard these mums with the appreciation and respect with which they deserve, and treat them accordingly, each as an individual with her own set of needs and likes.
We do have foals/weanlings for sale at times, and they are listed, when available, on th e 'Sales' page. We do not operate using a 'flat rate' price for our Donkeys, based upon their pedigree. Any Donkey we sell is assessed as an individual. We believe that along with bloodlines, factors such as temperament, conformation, condition, past level of care, and level of education/training should play a significant role in assessing the value of a Miniature Mediterranean Donkey.
All of our stock are registered with the Donkey All Breeds Society of Australia Inc., which is the only Australian society which maintains breed specific studbooks. DABSA apply ethical and specific criteria to their individual studbooks and registries, and you can rest assured that you are getting what you think you are getting when purchasing any DABSA registered stock. Please visit the DABSA site and consider becoming a member. DABSA is a progressive and active society, managed by an extremely dedicated committee, intent on promoting the various Donkey breeds within Australia and preserving their studbooks, providing opportunities for education, getting our Donkeys out and about, and maintaining the integrity of each of our breeds.
We have endeavoured to provide some background information regarding the wonderful and unique Miniature Mediterranean Donkey breed within the 'About AMMD's' section of the site.
Last, by by no means least we need to make special mention of a special Donkey. Our girl Dinki was a rescue Donkey, whom we took in through my work with an equine welfare organisation. Dinki was our very first 'Donkey experience', having been involved with horses for my entire life. Dinki is of unknown breeding, aged, covered in lumps and bumps, and maybe not so 'pleasing to the eye' as some! However, she is much treasured and will be with us for the rest of her days. Dinki and my daughter are fast friends, and our lives are all the better for having her in them, and for her inadvertently introducing us to these wonderful creatures, who truly are a joy. If you are interested in learning more about Donkeys, networking with fellow Donkey owners, would like to show off your Donkeys/Mules, or would simply enjoy some 'Donkey Chat', please feel free to visit our online Donkey Chat here.
