100% AMMD JACK FOAL [Imp. in utero N.Z.] D.O.B 30.09.11
Welcome to the world little man!!
Milo is the first son of Splendor's Nestle Special Dark [Imp. USA] in Australia, and what an outstanding ambassador this little fella is for his multi-champion sire. This boy brings fresh bloodlines to Australia of the highest standard, and I am extremely grateful for the opportunity allowed me by Marion and Peter van Dijk to import Milo's outstanding dam, along with Milo 'in utero'. He's an absolute precious, and as stunning as I imagined he would be, and more.
Thanks to Isis calling out to let us know that Violet was in labour, we were lucky enough to witness the final moments of Milo's arrival into the world. What a privilege it is to be present at such an amazing event, and what a stunning little package he was.. lying there, glistening pitch black. The first 24 hours are always nerve wracking, waiting for the foal to do all the things he/she should... suckle/wee/poop, but we needn't have worried, what a healthy little man he is, and what a brilliant mum Violet is being to him!
4.10.11 ~ Milo and Violet are doing really well. Thankfully the rain and biting cold wind has moved on, leaving some lovely sunny weather, perfect for recuperating mums and foals who love to sun-bake. I have a broken ankle at the moment and am confined to a wheel chair, so I have been frustrated by my immobility, however, Violet has been very kind, and has been pushing her bub over to me for pats and cuddles. She is proving to be a brilliant mum, but as all mums know, motherhood is a full-time job, and I have caught Violet yawning more that once!
The other donkey family members here are very interested in the new arrival and are busting for introductions. I have left that up to Vi, leaving her paddock gate open
during the day time to enable her to take her boy out around the property and introduce him to the others through the fences. So far though, she has elected to keep Milo within the 'security' of their foaling paddock. I'm sure that she will know when the time is right.
Just days old and Milo is displaying the typical 'joie de vivre' that all Mini Mediterranean Donkeys foals exude. He is careering around his paddock, bouncing and kicking out as they do, taunting his mum with 'fly-bys' and cheekiness. Violet looks on with a knowing look, and I'm sure that if she could roll her eyes to the heavens, she would!
Milo has already had many oo-ing and ahh-ing visitors. There really is nothing like a Mini Mediterranean Donkey foal to melt hearts and bring smiles to peoples faces! He really is a joy, and as the days go by and he 'unfolds', he impresses me more and more. He is destined to be an absolutely outstanding Jack, and certainly a big personality! How we would have dearly loved for him to have been a Jenny, so that he could stay with us.

Oh my goodness.. Milo is going through the 'scruffy' stage in a big way! His foal coat is starting to drop and I am catching glimpses of what's underneath. Right now, he looks like an old piece of carpet that's been left out in the sun for too long!
